This is made from a cross section of an oak tree. I loved making this as a complete slice of a tree in my living space is such statement and natural comfort. What normally happens with his cut of tree is that it will want to split due to shrinkage as it seasons, this natural feature I have made the most of by both fixing and showing it off to its best by installing a butterfly joints made from walnut. The edges have been hewn by hand with an axe and softened off by sanding. The top also has been sanded using several grades of paper the give it a very fine finish. Finally there has been three coats of wax applied with each layer buffed to a sheen, this has given the timber a natural silky finish. The four white powder coated legs give a sturdy, airy support which is in contrast to the solid permanent oak top.
